The demonstration in the ‘Working Dog Ring’ at the
CLA Game Fair at Blenheim was a great success.

The ‘SEGS Team’, led by Roger Wade, illustrated the
development of a Labrador Retriever from a ‘puppy’ to
a ‘fully trained’ working gundog of Field Trial standard,
all in just 30 minutes!

The demonstration
began with initial
‘puppy’ training....

....showing heelwork,
introduction to the
whistle, steadiness,
holding a dummy and
basic retrieving....

....before moving on
to the ‘novice’ section
which involved hand
signals, directional
work and memory
retrieves

Roger Wade made
sure that the crowd,
and the SEGS team,
knew what was
happening!

The ‘open’ section
began with a
simulated ‘drive’ –
plenty of noise and
distractions

After all the close
dummies had been
picked by hand dogs
were sent around
the arena for various
retrieves

Next was a ‘walk-up’
with ‘marks’ and
‘unseens’ in front and
behind the ’line’

With dogs working
all round the arena
there was plenty to
keep the crowd
entertained
