WELCOME TO SEGS

The South Eastern Gundog Society was formed in 1952 by a group of gundog enthusiasts who identified the need for such a Society in the South East of England. Their aim, which remains constant today, was to develop and improve the standard of gundog training and handling.

SEGS is a Retriever society (i.e. Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, Flatcoated Retriever, Irish Water Spaniel, Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever). Although any breed of gundog is welcome to attend our Training Classes, our Working Tests and Field Trials are only open to Retrievers registered with the Kennel Club.

Throughout the Spring and Summer months the Society organises a series of Gundog Working Tests and Training Classes, which are held at various grounds in the South East.

During the shooting season the Society holds Field Trials – whether Novice, All Aged or Open - for Any Variety Retrievers. Field Trials are run on shooting days and dogs are expected to retrieve all manner of game.

Gundog Working Tests, held in accordance with the Kennel Club’s Rules and Regulations, replicate situations found on a shooting day and provide a way to test a dog’s progress through its training.

Our Training Classes cater for all stages, from Puppy and first time handler through to experienced handlers and Open standard dogs.

SEGS is affiliated to the Kennel Club, BASC and also the Countryside Alliance, which it actively supports.

The Society welcomes all enquiries from any gundog enthusiasts of whatever level.
