The annual Midsummer Working Test was held on
Saturday 30th June 2007, at Cinder Hill, Horsted Keynes by
kind permission of Rory Clarke, and in conjunction with
the Countryside Alliance.

Despite the unappealing weather, with spells of rain throughout
the day, this ‘funday’ once again proved extremely popular with a
record 90 entries for the main ‘Competition’ – 39 ‘Open’, 36 ‘Novice’
and 15 ‘Pre-Novice’. The Judges for the day were Keith Broomfield,
Paul Jennings, Barbara Kuen, Tony Turner and Gary Vidler.

The ‘Competition’ was made up of 5 ‘tests’ – a ‘blind’ over water;
a ‘mark’ into water; a ‘blind’ in woodland; a long ‘mark’ over a jump
and steadiness with a ‘blind’ in woodland. The Judges offered
advice to the less experienced competitors and did their best to
make sure that everyone ‘achieved’ in some way.

Apart from the main ‘Competition’ there were also several
other ‘scurries’ – a ‘Jumping Lane’, ‘Dog and Gun’, ‘Jumping Rabbit’,
‘Double Mark’ and ‘Hunt-Up’. As always these proved not only
to be great fun but also very competitive as points gained here
were added to those for the ‘tests’ resulting in a total for the
Victor Ludorum awards.
