The annual Midsummer Working Test was held on
Saturday 2nd July 2005, at Cinder Hill, Horsted Keynes by
kind permission of Rory Clarke, and in conjunction with
the Countryside Alliance.

The excellent facilities and relaxed atmosphere at Cinder Hill
make this annual ‘funday’ a really popular event and this year,
despite the overcast and cloudy conditions, there were some
85 entries for the main ‘Competition’ – 35 ‘Open’, 29 ‘Novice’
and 21 ‘Pre-Novice’. The Judges for the day were Steve and
Paula Cullis, Colin Pelham, Tony Russell and Barry Taylor.

The ‘Competition’ was made up of 5 ‘tests’ – a ‘blind’; a ‘mark’
over water into cover; a ‘blind/mark double’ over water and
a fence; a long ‘mark’ and a ‘hunt-up’ over a fence and ditch
into woodland. Although some ‘tests’ proved quite a challenge
for some of the less experienced the Judges were able to offer
advice and help everyone ‘achieve’ in some way.

Apart from the main ‘Competition’ there were also several
other ‘scurries’ including a ‘Jumping Lane’, ‘Dog and Gun’,
‘Double Mark’ and ‘Hunt-Up’. As always these proved not only
to be great fun but also very competitive as points gained here
were added to those for the ‘tests’ resulting in a total for the
Victor Ludorum awards.
